The Capital & Its Craft (Dublin)

The grand circle begins in Dublin, a capital small enough to cross on foot and layered with a thousand years of history. A welcome dinner brings the group together on the first night; the next day, a local guide leads you from Viking beginnings through Georgian squares to café-lined lanes, with time inside St Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s largest church. In the afternoon, the Guinness Storehouse tells the story of the country’s most famous export across seven floors, ending with a pint poured for you in the Gravity Bar, high above the rooftops. Evenings are your own — Dublin’s music spills from its pubs without any need for a plan.

From Dublin, the route turns south. Breaking the drive at a Galtee Mountains honey farm, where a beekeeper opens the hidden life of the hive, you reach Cork — a river city built on butter and trade, its covered English Market unchanged in two centuries — and settle in for two nights. From this base, day trips reach the harbor town of Cobh, the last port of call for the Titanic and the departure point for millions of emigrants, its streets painted in a row of bright colors; and the whiskey stills of Midleton, where a tasting sorts the pot still from the blend.

Castles & a Banquet (Limerick)

Leaving the south, the road bends up the west coast toward the Shannon — but not before Blarney Castle, where the climb to the battlements earns both the legendary kiss and a view across green miles of Cork, a poison garden and ancient yews in the grounds below. The road then follows the estuary to Foynes, whose museum recalls the golden age of transatlantic flying boats and the invention, right here, of Irish coffee, taught in a hands-on masterclass. The night belongs to Limerick, and to Bunratty Castle nearby, where a fifteenth-century hall hosts a medieval banquet: a mead reception, four courses, and music on harp and fiddle by candlelight.

The Wild Atlantic (Galway)

Now the journey meets the Atlantic. Through County Clare, the road climbs to the Cliffs of Moher, standing sheer above the ocean — wind, spray, and a horizon that runs toward America — then crosses the Burren, a wide gray shelf of limestone hiding Arctic wildflowers and tombs older than the pyramids. At Rathbaun Farm, a border collie works the flock to whistle and command, with tea and scones by the fire. Galway, a salt-and-music city on the western edge, is home for two nights and the gateway to Connemara, where a smokehouse tasting on the water and the Gothic spectacle of Kylemore Abbey, mirrored in its lake, fill the final day.

The Circle Closes (Dublin)

The circle closes across the green middle of the country. The road east pauses at the Hill of Uisneach, the mythic center of Ireland, where a guide draws the old kingdoms together across a hillside that looks out, on a clear day, over half the counties of the land. Dublin returns by afternoon, with time to wander or shop before the send-off. The last night is spent at an Irish music pub, where a farewell dinner comes with fiddle, bodhrán, and the kind of singing that pulls the whole room in — the right way to close a circle of Ireland.
